Anchor Baby is a term used to describe the child of illegal immigrants in the United States. As a citizen of the United States, the child is able to create a situation in which his or her family can immigrate to the new country. With that in mind, the plot of Alpha Galore Films new movie “Anchor Baby” is rather self-explanatory.

In the trailer of the film—helmed by first time director Lonzo Nzekwe—Paul and Joyce are a couple in a new world. Paul and Joyce have lived in America for 2 years when their visas expire. Joyce is pregnant and her husband—who gets deported by the US Immigration Services—convinces her to stay in the United States and not move back to Nigeria until the baby is born. Unable to hide on her own from authorities, Joyce seeks the help of Susan, who brings the pregnant protagonist into her home to hide her. It is up to Joyce to find the strength and perseverance to stay in the United States without her husband, in order to create a new life for her family.

Powerful and moving, the trailer shows why this movie will add insight to a very concerning issue in the United States. For certain this movie will appeal to the African community, but it will also have an appeal to immigrants in general. The electro-pop music scene has become an exploding global phenomenon within the last few years. Artists like David Guetta have been able to puncture the barrier between electro and pop music to create unique, chart-topping sounds. Benny Adams is the latest artist to take the plunge into the growing genre.

Born in Morocco but coming by way of Montreal, the 21 year old Adams has uncovered a new genre of music that will set a strong precedent in the music industry by combining elements of Electro, Pop, and Rock to create what he calls Hard Pop. His musical influences range from the aforementioned Guetta to Michael Jackson to Bon Jovi, proving exactly where his unique sound comes from. The remarkable thing about Adams is that even without any formal music education, he is still able to write and produce his own songs. This makes him unique in a world where singer and producer are often separate people. While he is known locally for his talent, he is expanding his work and trying to blow up across Canada with one compilation under his belt, and plans to record a series of records. On top of that, he has attracted the attention of many different artists who have come to him for collaborations.

The song “My One and Only,” is the first official release from Adams and will be followed up next month with a video directed by Sharpshooter, shot in Toronto. The song immediately opens with a classic electro vibe but then a drumbeat comes into the foray that immediately creates a dance-friendly track. As we continue into the song, we hear Adams smooth vocals over the piano-laced track that only breaks up the drums long enough to make the audience anticipate the start of the next loop. The rising and falling of the beat keeps the listener’s attention and will surely cause a frenzy on dance floors across the country.

Benny Adams is still new to the game and is seeking the exposure that everyone desires. Because his target audience is a growing market—not to mention the fact that this song is fun to listen to—he should have no problem making a name for himself. With the huge success of his “Th1rt3en” mixtape, JD Era brings to us
a video of his anthem “You Know This”. The single itself has been
getting major attention in the city of Toronto, reaching the number 4
spot on Flow 93.5’s MegaCity Countdown. It has reached that position
for a reason, pairing JD Era’s unmatched flow and wordplay with a beat

As previously shown, Bingeman’s Camping Resort in Kitchener was the site of one of the biggest hip-hop concerts to ever come through Southern Ontario. Hot 97’s Summer Jam was highlighted by performances from Fabolous, T-Pain, Busta Rhymes, and various Canadian acts. The above footage shows performance  by Rick Ross, hailing from Miami.

Later in the night, Rick Ross, a.k.a. The Bawse, a.k.a. Rick Rozay stepped to the stage ready to hold it down. The footage shows him performing his smash street anthem “Blowing Money Fast (BMF)” with an immediate reaction from the crowd. His stage attire may give the impression that Ross is laid back, but believe that he is serious about his craft and has the ability to move a crowd. His new album “Teflon Don” is IN STORES NOW and should find it’s way to the top of the charts.

Kitchener was the setting for one of the biggest hip-hop festivals to come to Southern Ontario as Hot 97’s Summer Jam put on a show at Bingeman’s Camping Resort. In true Summer Jam style, the artist lineup provided the crowd with some local Canadian flavor as well as some of the indutry’s heavy hitters. From Toronto MC JD Era to the world renowned Fabolous, Rick Ross, and Busta Rhymes, the entire show hosted by Legacy Sound Crew andHot 97’s DJ Enuff did not disappoint. A highlight of the night was T-Pain performing his classic cuts as well as giving everyone a taste of his new single called “Rap Song” off his upcoming album “Revolver”.
First and foremost, T-Pain’s stage presence and ability to control a crowd stand out above others. His wit and charm immediately captured the audience as he had them following his commands. The footage above shows him introducing and explaining the influence behind his new single. As he puts it he likes “f—ing to rap music.” The song has a mellow vibe to it with a hard bass line as T-Pain croons to his lady in the song. He cleverly inserts three well known rap classics into the chorus, using lines from Outkast’s “Elevators”, Lil Wayne’s “A Milli”, and 50 Cent’s “In Da Club”. The chorus also gives a shout out to industry staples Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane.
The first Canadian Summer Jam was a great success with great performances by all of the artists. T-Pain put on a great show as can be seen in the footage and was good enough to give the crowd a sneak peak into his upcoming single and album.
